ASW Distillery is Atlanta's hometown whiskey distillery — and one of the most technically distinctive craft distilleries in the country. Their calling card is a rare hybrid approach: traditional Scottish-style double copper pot distillation, combined with grain-in distillation, a Southern innovation that extracts deeper, more complex flavor from every batch. They call it Southern Pot-Still Pioneering, and it shows in the glass.
The Fiddler line is the full expression of that philosophy — a lineup of wheated bourbons, toasted finishes, pot-still experiments, and foraged ryes that each demonstrate a different dimension of what ASW is capable of.
This kit is a deliberate scouting mission. Later this year, Prime Barrel will select a single barrel from ASW. This tasting is how we get there — six bottles, six approaches, one conversation with the founder about what makes each one tick.
What's in the Kit
Fiddler Wheated Bourbon | 92 Proof 51% corn, 45% wheat, 4% malted barley — blended with ASW's own copper-pot-distilled high-malt bourbon, aged at least 6 years with a portion double-oaked. The flagship. Notes of toffee, clove, and citrus.
Fiddler Big Green Egg Bourbon | Cask Strength 51% corn, 45% wheat, 4% malted barley — nearly 7 years old, including a secondary toasted barrel finish. Master Distiller Justin Manglitz hand-toasts and chars North Georgia mountain oak staves directly on a Big Green Egg ceramic smoker before adding them to the barrel for the final stretch of aging. Each batch carries a different stave combination. Notes of marshmallow, nougat, and vanilla buttercream.
Fiddler Toasted Bourbon | Cask Strength The same high-wheat mash bill, finished in toasted barrels across varying toast levels and time. That 45% wheat content keeps it silky-smooth despite the proof. Gold Medal, San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Notes of fall spices, toasted marshmallow, and pecan pie.
Fiddler Heartwood Bourbon | Cask Strength Triple-oaked, including a final maturation on hand-harvested Georgia white oak staves charred before entering the barrel — cut each winter when the sapwood drains from the heartwood. More than twice the wheat content of the famous allocated wheated bourbons. Gold Medal, SFWSC. Notes of baking spices, caramel, maple, and orange peel.
Fiddler Soloist Bourbon | 100 Proof 56% corn with six specialty malts making up the rest — double-distilled on ASW's Vendome copper pot stills with the grain in. The first straight bourbon ever distilled in Atlanta. A four-grain after-dinner sipper unlike anything else in the lineup. Notes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, cherry cola, chocolate, and peanut brittle.
Fiddler Toasted Rye | Cask Strength At least 6 years old, finished in toasted barrels. Mash bill varies by batch, sourced from across the country and fiddled with in-house. Double Platinum, ASCOT Awards. Gold Medal, SFWSC. Named one of the Best Ryes of 2023 by SLB Drinks. Notes of butterscotch, nutmeg, and rich oak.
Why This Kit Matters
ASW doesn't make one style of whiskey. They make wheated bourbons aged in Georgia heat, pot-still experiments built on Scottish tradition, toasted finishes crafted on a ceramic smoker, and ryes sourced from across the country and made their own.
