Lost Lantern
Most tasting kits show you one distillery's whiskey. This one shows you the whole country's.
Lost Lantern is the country's leading independent bottler of American whiskies. They aren't a distillery and never will be — instead, they travel across the United States sourcing exceptional whiskey from other producers, always with full transparency about where it came from, so whiskey lovers can discover great whiskies they otherwise couldn't get their hands on.
That mission is exactly why we're doing this tasting.
We'll taste six expressions spanning Lost Lantern's range — from a 50-state bourbon blend to single malts, single casks and a completely unreleased mystery pour that might turn into something more.
What's in the Kit
United States of Bourbon 100 Proof | 100 Proof The first-ever blend of bourbon from all 50 states. The Lost Lantern team visited every distillery in the blend to bring together the best bourbon from across the country in one bottle, with all 50 distilleries named openly on the label. Slow-proofed to 100 proof.
United States of Bourbon Cask Strength | 122.9 Proof The more limited, cask strength sibling to the widest-ranging blend of American whiskey ever made. More than 50 barrels from 50 distilleries in all 50 states, somehow still cohesive — taste it and see how they pulled it off.
American Vatted Malt Remix | 110.7 Proof The world of American single malt in one bottle. A blend of single malts from 11 of the country's top single malt distilleries, all listed on the label, aged in both new and used oak with just a touch of peat and mesquite smoke. Rich and dark, with powerful spice and fruit notes.
Gentle Giant — Balcones Texas Single Malt | 115.2 Proof A collaboration between Texas-based Balcones and Lost Lantern that shines a light on the lighter, more elegant side of Texas whiskey. This 5-barrel release was aged primarily in used oak and ex-apple brandy casks — Lost Lantern's most award-winning whiskey to date, and a perfect entry point to American single malt for bourbon and Scotch lovers alike. Named Best American Single Malt at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition; 95 points, Wine Enthusiast.
Cedar Ridge 8 Year Old Iowa Malted Rye | 123.8 Proof A Lost Lantern-selected single cask rye from Cedar Ridge, the largest distillery in Iowa and one of Lost Lantern's most regular partners. Eight years old with incredible depth for a malted rye. This is a Lost Lantern tasting room exclusive — event attendees get a shot at a bottle, but otherwise the only way to get one is a trip to Vermont.
Mystery Sample | ??? Distillery | ??? Years Old | ??? Proof A first look at a release from Lost Lantern's upcoming Fall Collection, from a brand-new Lost Lantern partner with a genuinely unique range of whiskies. We're not saying anything else — no distillery, no age, no proof — but pay close attention. Depending on what the room thinks, this one might not stay a mystery for long.
