About Us

We're a group of single barrel obsessives — some of us seasoned spirits professionals, some of us just really, really into whiskey — united by one belief: the best bottles aren't found on a shelf, they're found by hand.

That's the whole idea behind The Prime Barrel. We hunt down exceptional single barrel bourbon, rye, and finished whiskey, taste everything ourselves, and only put our name behind the picks worth your money. No single barrel program that partners with us gets a free pass — if it doesn't taste great, it doesn't become a Prime Barrel pick.

Our Philosophy

We're not chasing one formula. Sometimes that means high-proof and loud. Sometimes it means something quieter and more traditional. Sometimes we go looking for the weird, experimental stuff nobody else wants to touch. The through-line is always taste — and we'd rather surprise you with something great than hand you the safe, expected choice.

That's why you'll find a few different flavors of "Prime Barrel pick" across the site: our own single barrel selections, Exclusive Bottles you won't find anywhere else, Collaboration Picks we've built alongside distilleries and partners, and even Other Clubs' Picks we think deserve a wider audience. Different sources, same standard.

Here's the part we're most stubborn about: our members get a say in every single barrel pick. Not one "guru" tasting alone in a back room and declaring what's good — a room full of competing, demanding, occasionally-disagreeing palates, all weighing in. That's on purpose. If a barrel can win over members who don't even agree with each other, chances are it'll win you over too. It also happens to be a lot more fun than the one-expert-decides model everyone else runs.
