The Sequel That Tops the Original
It’s not often you can say the second time around is better than the first, but The Prime Barrel hit the jackpot with our second visit to Green River Distilling in Owensboro, KY. As impressive as our first Green River barrel was, this 6-year-old bourbon surpasses it in every way—nose, palate, and finish.
Our journey began with a tour of the historic Green River Distillery, the tenth oldest in Kentucky. The rich aromas of distillation and aging whiskey filled the air as we explored, and tasting the high-proof new make bourbon straight from the four-story copper column still was a true highlight.
As we entered Rickhouse B, six members of The Prime Barrel were presented with four hand-picked barrels for a blind tasting. Barrel 3 and Barrel 4 quickly rose to the top, but after careful deliberation, Barrel 3 was the unanimous winner. This extraordinary barrel is 8 months older and 13 proof points higher than our previous Green River pick, which sold out in no time.
With over 50% angel share loss, this 6-year, high-rye bourbon delivers concentrated, bold flavors at a powerful 132 proof. But be warned—this is a short barrel, and quantities are extremely limited!
Tasting Notes:
-
Nose: Vanilla extract, cinnamon, white pepper, red berries, with a touch of floral notes
-
Palate: Bold spice with brown sugar, caramel syrup, baking spices, orange zest, and a hint of charred oak
-
Finish: Long and warm with cayenne pepper, caramel, pecan pie, baking spices, and oak char that lingers with every sip
Don’t miss out on this powerhouse Green River bourbon—it’s an exclusive, limited release that won’t last long!
